He has been exhibiting since the late 1980s in the Gambia, Senegal, Europe and America, and co-founded the street art project that painted whole Gambian villages.
Njogu Touray was born in 1960 and is among the most widely respected artists in the Gambia, working in a style that sets traditional African motifs against contemporary painting and takes its subjects from Gambian ritual, ceremony and ordinary life.
He has shown in group and solo exhibitions in the Gambia, Senegal, Europe and the United States since the late 1980s. He co-founded the international street art organisation Wide Open Walls and runs the Sakura Arts Studio at Latrikunda. In 2007 he was commissioned to make work for the Gambian presidential collection, and later for the villas built for the African Union summit.
